Nothing made by man is perfectly round. Everything is built to an allowable tolerance, and it’s astonishing how tolerance stacking, has the potential to diminish an otherwise sound assembly. The bearing is only out by a smidge, and the hub a couple thou, the wheel only a few, and the tire but a few more, the hub pilot gap seems slight, almost insignificant. But collectively, all these tiny details ignored, adds up to an assembly that is closer in shape to an ellipsoid than the desired perfect circle. Thorough attention to monitoring, minimizing, and using these variances against one another, we can construct a nearly perfect fabrication out of imperfect assemblage of components.
Our Process
We start by cleaning and inspecting all the contact surfaces of the wheel, hub and rotating assembly, to ensure they are suitable and prepared to receive and survive the next set of tires. Careful lubrication of the bead and seats, and conscientious attention to how the tire mounts to the wheel to minimize radial and lateral runout of the assembly once installed is key. The meticulous process continues while mounting the wheel assembly to the hub, and further utilizing the “play” in the hub pilots to further minimize those all important runout numbers, to ensure the roundest assembly achievable...
Then, the entire rotating assembly is spun up to highway speed and balanced on the truck as a unit. We’re not balancing just the Tire, we’re balancing the wheel, hub, bearing, brake drum/disk and the tire, as a unified rotating assembly. We don’t do it this way because it’s easy, we do it this way because we take pride in our products and service, and because we’ve proven year after year, kilometer after kilometer, that there is no better way to fulfill our responsibility of maximizing your tire investment...
